Loquat Kaleidoscope Blanket

Christine White Art, loquat soft print blanket

This blanket is amazing – so snuggly, and yet a crisp beautiful print. Sized at 60 x 45 inches, its perfect for wrapping around your shoulders, doubling up on a lap by the fire, or to add some color to your room. Reminiscent of spring and inspired by my original oil painting “Trees Are…“, this piece is functional luxury.

It is 100% polyester, and washable (cold temperature to maintain vibrancy). One side has a kaleidoscope-style print of loquats and leaves; the other side is a smooth neutral gray. This video shows both sides:

Treasure (Loquats), 22×18, oil

Trees Are Treasure. Loquats are symbolic of wealth and luck, and I feel both of these when I see how generously our loquat trees share their gifts. If you’ve never seen a loquat, its all good – I hadn’t seen one until we discovered them in the yard!

This painting exudes gold, both in the silhouettes of leaves on the frame and in richly textured paint on the fruits. I wanted this piece to invite a three-dimensional pop, as if we are looking through the leaves in real life. Here is a video that shows some of the fruit details and gold shimmer.

LaQuats, Pure, oil & mixed media, 10.5×16.5

This and its corresponding piece “LaQuats, Innocent!” are the first of a series where I use repurposed paperboard as a base and creative conversation. In this case, the base is a LaCroix sparkling water box, adhered to a canvas that has my original photography of our loquat tree. On the cardboard part, a separate part of the same tree is painted in oil.

The word “Pure” appears many times on this box, because there is no added flavoring in this instance. It feels appropriate for a nature painting because in my mind, nature always feels “pure”. This is true even when I consider the dirt in which a seed grows, the bugs that live on the trunk and leaves, and the birds who roost and leave their droppings among the branches. Still, somehow nature feels more pure than our own tidy dwellings and organized lives.

This piece has finished, gallery wrapped sides and thus is ready to hang without a frame.

An interesting thing about the original LaCroix box is how many times the word “innocent!” appears (with the exclamation). It makes me smile, because I truly wonder how many people feel not-innocent when drinking bubbly water?
